APERA INSTRUMENTS / EC400 / AI412
The EC400 brings conductivity and calculated TDS into a portable, measurement-focused kit. A separate 2301T-S conductivity/temperature electrode, automatic ranging and supplied standards support routine solution checks away from a fixed bench.
Choose AI412 for EC/TDS work without the memory, USB and extra derived measurement modes of EC400S. Select the cell and calibration points for the expected conductivity.

The AI412 standard kit brings together the meter, its specified electrode and the matching calibration supplies. It is not a meter-only order.

START WITH THE SAMPLE AND THE WORKFLOW
Compare conductivity across suitable process-water samples with consistent compensation settings. EC reflects combined ionic behavior, not the identity of every dissolved material.
Use EC directly or a TDS value calculated with a documented factor. Keep the factor consistent when comparing readings to a procedure or another instrument.
Read the chosen parameter and temperature together. Keep the sensor clean, avoid trapped bubbles and use the proper standard for the measurement range.
EC400 supports automatic 1-4 point conductivity calibration. The kit supplies 84 µS/cm, 1413 µS/cm and 12.88 mS/cm standards; the recognized 111.8 mS/cm fourth point requires a separate standard.
The supplied 2301T-S is a K=1.0 electrode. Low-conductivity, ultrapure and high-range methods can need a different cell or a flow-cell setup. The meter’s 200 mS/cm ceiling is not a reason to ignore electrode selection.
Choose the data workflow and parameter set, not the suffix alone. S does not mean a different standard probe or automatically better sample compatibility.
A measurement-focused EC/TDS kit. 1-4 point EC calibration. No supported measurement logger or USB function is documented for this standard model.
Timestamped memory, manual/timed recording and USB/PC-Link. 500 groups per US manual. Salinity/resistivity modes added. The standard supplied electrode model remains the same.
Stable-reading indication and automatic HOLD help you capture a reading consistently. Record the result in your chosen workflow. The standard EC400 is not the recording/USB version of the family; choose EC400S when its documented memory and connected-data functions are required.
Use suitable points from 84 µS/cm, 1413 µS/cm and 12.88 mS/cm. The recognized 111.8 mS/cm point is optional. Calibrate low to high and document the reference temperature, coefficient and any TDS factor.
Rinse before and after samples, avoid bubbles at the sensor and wait for stability. Keep connectors dry. The meter’s electronic range and compensation interval do not override the supplied electrode’s sample limits.
Keep pH glass in its KCl-based storage system, never pure water. For 2301T-S, follow its dedicated instructions for distilled/DI water in the cap. Do not rub sensing surfaces or improvise aggressive cleaning treatments.
For a dedicated pH routine with a separate 201T-S electrode. ORP needs a separately sold compatible electrode.
For conductivity and calculated TDS. S adds salinity/resistivity readouts and data functions.
For both pH and EC-derived workflows with two supplied probes, used in their appropriate modes.
A pocket tester can suit a different handling preference. Compare the measurement requirements, sensor and recording needs before switching formats; these are alternative instruments, not compatible plug-in accessories.
Alternative format: Apera EC60 pocket conductivity/TDS/salinity tester
Related workflow: Apera PC60 multi-parameter pocket tester
The kit includes EC400, 2301T-S conductivity/temperature electrode, 84 µS/cm, 1413 µS/cm and 12.88 mS/cm standards, carrying case and instructions. The standards are 50 mL each. Power is four AA batteries.
The meter covers conductivity to 200 mS/cm across automatic ranges. The detailed manual specifies conductivity accuracy of ±1.0% F.S. ±1 digit. Full scale is not one percent of every reading; match range and electrode to the method.
TDS is calculated from conductivity using a conversion factor, not measured by a second dissolved-solids sensor. The factor adjusts from 0.40 to 1.00 with a default of 0.71. Conductivity calibration provides the basis for the TDS result.
No. The standard EC400 provides conductivity and calculated TDS. EC400S adds salinity/resistivity modes along with recording and USB functions.
The standard-series manual supports 1-4 points: 84 µS/cm, 1413 µS/cm, 12.88 mS/cm and 111.8 mS/cm. Three standards ship with the kit; 111.8 mS/cm is separate.
The standard EC400 has no supported measurement logger or USB connection documented in the standard-series scheme. Choose EC400S when its documented memory and PC-Link functions are required.
Do not assume that. The kit supplies a K=1.0 2301T-S cell. The manual identifies specialized low-range cells, flow-cell testing for ultrapure measurements and high-range cell selection as separate considerations.
Rinse before and after use, remove trapped bubbles and avoid rubbing the sensor. The dedicated electrode instructions specify distilled/DI water in its storage cap, not the KCl solution used for pH glass. Follow the instructions for the supplied probe revision.
Review the EC400 specifications and supplied parts, then return to the price and ordering controls. Blue Tiger Scientific can help you compare the meter, probe and recording requirements for your application.
Meter ranges and compensation intervals describe the electronics, not an unrestricted operating range for the supplied electrode. Match the exact probe and sample conditions to the method.
