Two runs. One workspace.
Make comparison part of the workflow.
Run the same experiment in both vessels or give each a different task. Compatible sizes and vessel types can differ, helping you plan paired studies without requiring identical hardware on both sides.
Duo heating supports two thermostat-heated runs, two dry-heated runs, or one of each. Choose the arrangement around your culture and utilities rather than assuming every vessel uses the same temperature-control method.
-
Media development: compare formulations under defined control settings.
-
Feed optimisation: investigate substrate delivery and process responses.
-
Culture development: select stirred, air-lift or solid-state configurations to suit the work.
The parallel concept
Shared controller. Separate experiments.
Four built-in pump heads per vessel can be assigned to acid, base, antifoam and substrate.

Start with the culture
Choose the vessel—not just the litre number.
Working volume is the intended culture volume; total volume includes headspace. Two vessels labelled “5 L working” can have different total capacities.

Specify the material and handling needs.
Tell us the substrate characteristics, intended capacity and mixing needs. pH and DO sensing are optional in the published solid-state configuration, rather than assumed liquid-culture inclusions.
A mixed arrangement illustrates different heating approaches on the same controller.
Make the specification practical
Plan the complete bench setup.
Most listed controlled vessel configurations operate from 5°C above coolant temperature to 60°C; base-heated vessels extend to 90°C. These are configuration-specific ranges, not a universal 5–90°C claim.
The FS-05 requires 210–230 V, 50–60 Hz supply. Plan for dry, oil-free, filtered air at 0.5–2 bar and water at 0.4–1 bar. Supplied cooling water must be at least 15°C below the operating setpoint.
Controller dimensions are 400 × 549 × 740 mm (W × L × H). Add space for both vessels, tubing, utilities and access—and check autoclave clearance with the condenser attached.
Controller anatomy: A touchscreen; B pumps; C USB; D power; E flowmeters; F front panel.
Control with context
Keep routine adjustments close at hand.
The touchscreen brings process settings and pump control into one interface. Built-in pumps run at 0–65 rpm in 1 rpm increments; 15-step programming supports structured process sequences.
USB export and Ethernet remote communication help connect bench work with review. An external PC can network up to 16 FS-05 controllers for up to 32 vessels—not 32 vessels directly connected to one controller.
Choose advanced capabilities deliberately: EZScript, external pumps and additional analytical devices are options to discuss with your configuration.
FS-05 close-up: eight pump heads, with four assigned to each vessel channel.
Look at the details
Dedicated feeds for each experiment.
The two banks of four built-in pump heads give each vessel its own pumping capacity. Assign them to acid, base, antifoam and substrate according to the selected process.
Tell us how many separate feeds you expect to use. If your work needs additional feeds, external pumps are a configuration discussion—not something to infer from the photograph.

Connect the bench to review
A closer look at remote monitoring.
FS-05 supports Ethernet remote communication. The published architecture allows an external PC to connect up to 16 FS-05 controllers, representing up to 32 vessel channels.
Include your networking and data-review needs in the enquiry so that software, interfaces and any required external equipment can be scoped together.
A clear scope of supply
Specify what you need. Know what is optional.
Basic liquid-culture configuration
Controller, rotameter and built-in pumps; selected vessel assembly; pH, DO, temperature and foam/level sensing. Stirred vessels specify a brushless motor, impellers and baffles, with condenser and sparger.
A start-up kit lists silicone tubing, clamps, metal connector and autoclavable disc filters. Final quantities follow the agreed two-vessel bill of materials.
Configure separately
Vessel sizes and heating arrangements; water circulator/chiller; ORP, optical density, gas mixing, oxygen enrichment, mass-flow control, off-gas analysis, lighting, external pumps and EZScript.
Blankets or bases accompany the correspondingly named vessel configuration—not every vessel. Solid-state sensing differs from liquid-culture configurations.
Match the options to the job
-
Oxygen-control needs: describe whether the process uses air, oxygen enrichment or mixed gases. External oxygen and gas mixing require the appropriate optional hardware.
-
Independent feeds: list acid, base, antifoam and nutrient feeds separately. FS-05 provides four built-in pump heads per vessel; additional feeding lines require a configured expansion.
-
Additional monitoring: tell us if ORP, off-gas measurements, optical density, lighting or remote monitoring are needed. These are separate selection decisions, not blanket standard inclusions.
-
Different conditions in each vessel: specify both working volumes and any differences in temperature, mixing, gas strategy and sensing so that both channels can be quoted together.
Find your fit
FS-05, FS-06 or FS-07?
Choose by experimental layout, vessel range and expansion needs—not model number alone.
Choose the controller around the experiment
-
FS-05 Parallel: two independently controlled vessels from one controller. Choose it when paired runs are central to your work.
-
FS-06 One: one vessel, three built-in pumps and a narrower controller footprint, with compatible working-volume options up to 10 L. Basic liquid-culture sensing is included in the published standard package.
-
FS-07 Evo: one vessel with four built-in pumps, compatible working-volume options up to 20 L and a published solid-state configuration.
More than one FS-06 or FS-07 can be used when separate controllers are appropriate. Tell us both the total vessel count and whether you need two vessels operated from a single controller.
When FS-06 needs the EPM expansion module
The FS-06 brochure identifies selected pH-Stat and DO-Stat feeding functions, expanded oxygen/gas control, ORP, a second external pump, and pump flow/total-volume calculation as expansion-module-dependent. The relevant devices must also be specified. Ordinary onboard programmable control is not the same as this optional expansion.
Share the capabilities you need; the final quote will identify the controller, module and accessory combination rather than assume every illustrated accessory is compatible.

Before you configure
Questions worth asking.
Can both vessels run different experiments?
Yes. Each vessel can run the same or a different experiment, using compatible sizes, types and heating arrangements. Specify both channels together.
Does 5 L mean total vessel capacity?
No. Here, 5 L means working volume. Total capacity varies: 6.7 L for a plain-bottom base-heated vessel, 6.8 L for dish-bottom examples and 7 L for an air-lifter.
Which setup suits gentle mixing?
Discuss air-lift vessels or pitched-blade impellers for your culture. Air-lifters use gas circulation without an agitation motor; stirred-vessel speed ranges depend on size and impeller choice.
What gets sterilised in the autoclave?
The selected vessels are autoclavable, not the controller. This is not an in-situ SIP system. The PT100 temperature probe is non-autoclavable; confirm the preparation procedure and chamber clearance.
Will I need a separate chiller?
That depends on your setpoint and available cooling water. Check the required coolant temperature, flow arrangement and heat load; an external circulator/chiller is a separately configured option.
Are all software features included?
Onboard control, USB export and Ethernet communication are documented. Advanced EZScript is optional. Confirm remote software and external PC requirements in the quotation.
Are these PDFs operating manuals?
No: they are product brochures. Manufacturer instruction and service manuals are accessed through its Member Download Center; request the appropriate documentation for your configured system.
What should I send for a useful quotation?
Share organism or culture type, working volume for each vessel, agitation and temperature needs, gas strategy, sensing, available utilities and autoclave dimensions. Include any feed or analysis options.
