The SmartReader™ Multimode from Accuris is a cutting-edge microplate reader designed to cater to the advanced requirements of modern life science laboratories. Equipped with comprehensive high-performance optical systems, it serves as an all-in-one solution for absorbance, fluorescence, and luminescence applications.
This versatile instrument can rapidly process assays in standard 96-well plates and also accommodate 6, 12, 24, 48, and 384 well plates. Programming and operation are managed via its large color touch screen, eliminating the need for an external computer or software. Optional PC software is available for streamlined control and data management on a Windows™ PC. The user-friendly interface guides operators through various options for assay setup and processing. The device includes a built-in plate shaker with linear, orbital, and double-orbital modes, and an incubator capable of top heating from ambient +4°C to 45°C to prevent condensation when lids are used on microplates. Upon startup, the SmartReader Multimode performs a self-diagnostic test and automatic calibration, ensuring consistent results across diverse assays.
UV-Visible Absorbance
The SmartReader Multimode utilizes an advanced monochromator and a long-life, broad-spectrum xenon flash lamp to produce incident light at user-selected wavelengths from 200 to 1000 nm in 1 nm steps. Assays are processed quickly, with a full 96-well plate being read in under 15 seconds. The kinetic assay feature allows for multiple readings over a set period, displaying real-time curves for each well. The optional SmartDrop™ plate facilitates fast and convenient UV absorbance evaluation of up to 16 nucleic acid and protein sample droplets.

Fluorescence
The device includes three filter modules providing common excitation and emission wavelengths for fluorescence assays, with additional modules available. These advanced modules incorporate dichroic mirrors with narrow band-pass optical filters, ensuring high light transmission and increased detection sensitivity. Modules are easily exchangeable and barcoded for automatic wavelength data loading. The SmartReader Multimode features automatic dynamic range selection, allowing the photomultiplier tube to accurately capture and normalize signal intensity.
Luminescence
Capable of luminescent detection, the SmartReader Multimode can handle both flash and glow assays. An advanced photomultiplier tube (PMT) enhances the sensitivity of weak signals, prevents over-saturation of strong signals, and provides an ideal detection range for all common luminescence applications. Up to two sample injectors (available separately) can be installed, compatible with both 96 and 384-well plates.
Data Transfer & PC Software
Data from the SmartReader Multimode can be exported as .XLS or .CSV files via the included USB flash drive, the FTP server, or using the optional SmartReader™ PC Software. The software allows for remote programming and operation via a cable connection, automatically uploading data from the instrument to a connected PC for further analysis. Versions are available for academic research and FDA 21 CFR Part 11 compliance.
