Heat the plate. Control the liquid. Know the difference.

Bring controlled heating and magnetic mixing to routine research preparation. The IKA C-MAG HS 7 digital pairs a chemically resistant ceramic surface with an included PT 1000.60 sensor, so you can regulate temperature in the liquid rather than relying on the hotplate setting alone.

For one vessel at a time, with stirring capacity up to 10 L of water. This US configuration includes three IKAFLON stirring bars, making the instrument, sensor and starter bar selection a single clearly defined purchase.

Vessels, a sensor-support stand and clamp, and other accessories are not listed in IKA’s standard delivery scope. Arrange secure sensor positioning appropriate to your vessel. MINISTAR and MICROSTAR overhead stirrers are separate instruments, not included parts or verified add-on accessories for this hotplate.

Choose it for the job, not just the maximum temperature

Routine heated preparation

A practical fit for research buffer and reagent preparation when your liquid, vessel and process are suitable for magnetic stirring and hotplate heating.

Temperature-sensitive workflows

Use the supplied PT 1000.60 to control the liquid temperature. IKA specifies ±0.5 K control accuracy in the medium with PT1000; actual results still depend on a suitable, well-mixed setup.

Low-viscosity mixing

The 10 L rating is based on water. Viscosity, vessel geometry and stir-bar coupling determine usable capacity. For difficult, viscous loads, evaluate a separately configured overhead stirrer instead.

Plate temperature is not sample temperature

A hotplate transfers heat through the vessel before it reaches the liquid. Reading the plate temperature does not tell you the temperature of the whole sample. The sensor changes where the instrument measures and controls.

WITHOUT THE SENSOR

In mode B or C, heating without PT1000 uses the plate temperature target. The liquid may be cooler and may respond more slowly. Do not treat a plate setpoint as a verified sample temperature.

WITH THE INCLUDED SENSOR

PT 1000.60 measures in the liquid. The target is the desired medium temperature, and the actual-temperature display reports the sensor reading. Keep the sensor at least 20 mm immersed, securely held and clear of the stirring bar.

Read the numbers correctly. The medium’s actual-temperature display resolves 0.1 K. That is different from the specified ±0.5 K control accuracy. Temperature setpoint increments are 1 K. Stirring speed is adjusted with the 0–6 scale; this model does not provide a numeric RPM display.

Will it fit your bench?

BODY WIDTH 215 mm
CERAMIC PLATE
180 × 180 mm
Body depth 330 mm
Overall height 105 mm
Simplified footprint guide. Not a vessel-size or clearance drawing.

Allow room beyond the 215 × 330 mm body for safe access, cables, sensor support and the vessel. The manual calls for at least 100 mm from walls and adjacent equipment and 800 mm of free space above the instrument.

The current IKA product data specifies a 180 × 180 mm ceramic plate and a 15 kg maximum load. Load and mixing volume are separate limits: neither is a guarantee that every vessel or viscous sample will work.

Use a level, dry, fire-resistant, non-slip work surface and a grounded supply matching the 120 V nameplate. The instrument is rated IP21, not for immersion or washdown.

A repeatable setup, from first mix to cool-down

1 • Prepare safely

Read the manual and assess the chemicals and vessel. With the device off and unplugged for accessory installation, secure the sensor support. Connect the PT1000 with power off. Place the stir bar in a suitable vessel and keep the probe at least 20 mm immersed.

2 • Build stable circulation

Start with the speed control at its left stop. Increase gradually to create stable circulation, not splashing or vessel movement. Use the supplied bar that couples reliably in your vessel; maximum supported bar length is 80 mm.

3 • Set the liquid target

Select the appropriate operating mode, confirm the sensor reading, then set heat. Factory mode A requires PT1000 for heating. Let the mixed sample equilibrate before recording results.

4 • Shut down and cool

Switch heating off and allow the plate and vessel to cool. HOT indicates a plate above 50 °C while the unit remains powered in stirring or standby. A dark display after unplugging is not evidence that the surface is cool.

Choose the restart behavior deliberately

The three operating modes change what happens after power is removed. Choose the mode as part of your laboratory procedure, not as a substitute for supervision.

  • Mode A, the factory setting: heating requires PT1000; the temperature target resets to 0 °C and heating is off at power-on. A configurable HI TEMP value limits the adjustable target.
  • Mode B: settings are retained after switch-off or a power interruption, with automatic restart behavior. Heating without the sensor is possible.
  • Mode C: retains the mode B behavior and locks settings against adjustment. Return to A or B to change settings.

The independent safety circuit is fixed at 550 °C. It is not an adjustable solvent-specific cutoff. The family safety flyer also describes features of other IKA stirrers; do not assume every family-level feature applies to this model.

For trained laboratory use only. Do not use in explosive atmospheres. Evaluate flammable liquids and ignition risks using your lab’s risk assessment and the manual. The surface, sensor and vessel can all remain hot after heating stops.

If the result is not what you expected

The bar loses coupling

Reduce speed and check vessel centering, bar selection and viscosity. Increasing speed can make decoupling worse. E11 indicates a blocked motor; the manual directs a bar change or lower viscosity.

The displayed temperature seems wrong

Confirm whether the display is reading the plate or PT1000. Check immersion and stable mixing. E5 concerns the sensor not being in the medium; do not treat this error as a comprehensive boil-dry guarantee.

An error stops the run

Switch off and correct the stated cause before restarting. E1 concerns a missing sensor in mode A, E3 internal overheating and E6 a defective sensor. Stop use and seek service if a fault persists.

Complete the preparation workflow

Related workflow: Heathrow borosilicate Erlenmeyer flasks offer a separate vessel-selection route. Check the selected flask’s dimensions, temperature limits and method suitability; this link is not a blanket fit or heating-compatibility claim.

Related workflow: Heathrow 90-position wire lab drying rack supports the wash-and-dry stage after preparation. It is separate bench equipment, not a hotplate accessory.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included with IKA C-MAG HS 7 digital 0003487001?

The 120 V instrument, one PT 1000.60 stainless-steel sensor and one each of the IKAFLON 20, 30 and 40 stirring bars. Vessels and sensor-support hardware are not listed in the standard scope.

Is 0003487001 the US voltage version?

Yes. IKA’s current US technical data identifies 0003487001 as 120 V, 50/60 Hz, with 1020 W power input. Do not confuse it with other regional versions or assume universal voltage.

Does the 500 °C rating mean my sample reaches 500 °C?

No. The current plate heating range is 50–500 °C. The liquid temperature depends on the sample, vessel and heat transfer. With the supplied PT 1000.60 immersed, the device controls to the measured medium temperature rather than substituting plate temperature for sample temperature.

Does digital mean the instrument displays RPM?

No. Temperature is displayed digitally, but speed is adjusted using a 0–6 scale across a specified 100–1500 rpm range. Do not choose this model expecting a numeric RPM readout.

Can it stir 10 L of a viscous liquid?

The 10 L maximum is specified for water. Usable capacity for more viscous liquids depends on the sample and vessel, not volume alone. A separately selected overhead-stirring system may be more suitable; IKA’s MINISTAR and MICROSTAR recommendations do not establish accessory compatibility.

What happens after a power interruption?

That depends on the mode. In factory mode A the heat target resets to 0 °C and heating is off at power-on. Modes B and C retain settings and have automatic restart behavior. Review the manual before selecting either retained-settings mode.

How do I know when the plate is safe to touch?

HOT appears when the plate is above 50 °C while powered in stirring or standby. Do not rely on this warning after unplugging or loss of power. Allow the plate, sensor and vessel to cool before handling.

Is this a clinical device, and is supplier stock confirmed?

This listing is for research laboratory use, not diagnostic or medical use. Supplier availability and dispatch timing must be confirmed for the destination. IKA’s public page requires login to see availability; neither a listed price nor the 5 kg instrument weight establishes stock, freight or packed shipping weight.
