Copper ion results.
Ready for a portable testing routine.
The Apera ION400-CU is a portable copper ion meter kit for copper-ion measurement in prepared aqueous samples, laboratory studies and process checks. Its dedicated Cu²⁺ electrode supports ion-selective measurement while the IP57 meter brings a backlit display and guided calibration to bench or field work.
The copper electrode is specified for 0.032–6355 mg/L, sample pH 3–7 and 5–60°C. Choose PION400 when the same workflow also needs pH; choose ION400 when ion concentration, mV and temperature cover the task.

Choose the ion you report, then decide whether you also need pH. Each ion requires its own sensor, calibration standards and sample-conditioning method.

Meet the copper
ion-selective electrode.
The dedicated solid-state membrane responds selectively to copper in a prepared aqueous sample. The combination design brings measuring and reference functions together; temperature support must match the meter.
Condition and calibrate the copper electrode with suitable standards before measurement. Keep samples within 3–7 pH and 5–60°C; apply the method-specific ionic-strength adjustment and interference controls. Responds to copper-ion activity; complexed or particulate copper is not automatically equivalent to a total-copper result.
Understand the
solid-state sensing membrane.
This copper version uses a solid-state membrane. The manufacturer classification separates PVC, solid-state and crystalline sensors because different ions call for different sensing materials. PVC durability and storage claims should not be transferred to every membrane type.

Measuring element, reference
and temperature function.
The handbook diagram distinguishes IndSen 2071M analog combination electrodes from 2071S digital models and 1121M measuring electrodes. The analog 2071M branch is the relevant family here; the other architectures are shown for comparison.
Match the exact electrode connection and temperature support to the meter. A shared body shape or plug appearance is not sufficient to establish interchangeability.
Calibrate for the sample.
Control what affects stability.
Calibrate with suitable ion standards, then prepare standards and samples using the same method. The 400-series ion mode supports one- to three-point manual calibration; select appropriate points for the samples you expect.
Ionic strength, interfering ions, temperature, sample pH and deposits can affect the reading. Apera’s handbook checklist shows why electrode selection and sample preparation belong in the same workflow.

Condition, rinse
and store by electrode type.
Follow the instructions for this ion-selective electrode when conditioning, cleaning and storing it. Use appropriate standards to check response after maintenance. The measuring membrane and reference junction need contact with the prepared sample during measurement.
The PVC family uses solid-electrolyte technology; this does not remove the need for conditioning and calibration. Use model-specific care instructions rather than applying a general pH-probe soaking routine to every ISE.
ION400-CU buyer questions
What does the ION400-CU measure?
It measures copper ions (Cu²⁺) with the corresponding electrode, plus mV and temperature. This ION400 configuration does not add a pH measurement mode.
What is the copper electrode range?
Apera’s electrode-family catalog specifies 0.032–6355 mg/L. The usable sample range also depends on calibration, interferences and sample preparation.
Which sample conditions must I check?
The electrode specification calls for 5–60°C and a sample pH of 3–7. These limits are narrower than the meter’s general temperature display range.
Does this report every form of copper?
Responds to copper-ion activity; complexed or particulate copper is not automatically equivalent to a total-copper result.
How do I calibrate the ion measurement?
Use suitable copper standards and the meter’s 1–3 point manual ion calibration. Match the sample-conditioning procedure between standards and samples.
Can I measure another ion with the same electrode?
No. The copper electrode is selective for Cu²⁺. Measuring another supported ion requires the corresponding electrode, standards and calibration.
How does ION400 differ from PION400?
ION400 focuses on ion concentration, mV and temperature. PION400 adds pH measurement capability; choose it when your workflow also calls for pH testing.
Is the meter suitable for field work?
The meter has an IP57 waterproof and dustproof rating and uses four AA batteries. Protect connections and follow the operating instructions; the rating does not remove sample and electrode operating limits.
