IKA S 25 N - 18 G • 0000593400 • REUSABLE DISPERSING TOOL

Give your T 25 a tool matched to the sample.

The S 25 N - 18 G adds an 18 mm rotor-stator head to a compatible IKA drive for batch dispersing, emulsifying and wet crushing. Its published 10–1,500 mL water-based working range makes it a middle-size option between the smaller 8 mm and larger 25 mm examples in the S 25 N family.

Tool only, not a complete homogenizer. Catalog 0000593400 is a reusable stainless-steel/PTFE dispersing tool. The drive, stand, mounting hardware and sample vessel are separate. It is manufacturer-confirmed for the classic T 25 digital we sell.

What arrives with 0000593400?

IKA’s tool manual lists the following standard delivery for the ordered S 25 N tool:

  • S 25 N - 18 G dispersing tool
  • Shaft key and flat key for the documented service procedure
  • Mesh bag for collecting small parts during cleaning
  • Hook for hanging the service card
  • Technical information and short instructions

The manual covers several related tools. The additional 25 F-specific key and the S 25 NK bearing-remover accessory are listed only for their corresponding models, not as extra equipment supplied with this S 25 N - 18 G. A motor drive, stand, boss-head clamp and vessel are not included.

Why this head, rather than just any S 25 shaft?

Detail crop of the S 25 N - 18 G stator slots and circulation opening
Phone-readable detail crop from the same manufacturer photograph. It shows the working head, not a different tool variant.

An 18 mm stator around a 12.7 mm rotor

IKA specifies a 0.3 mm rotor-stator gap and a maximum circumferential speed of 16.6 m/s. These are tool-specific dimensions and limits, not settings that can be changed by selecting a different number on the drive.

The stationary stator surrounds the rotating rotor. Sample passes through the working region and is subjected to high shear. The circulation opening and bearing need liquid during operation; this is not a dry-milling attachment.

N identifies the PTFE slide-bearing construction. The tool can be cleaned and reused, but its bearings and working edges need inspection and maintenance. G is the coarse/general-purpose designation, not the same head geometry as a fine F or saw-tooth ST model.

Choose the tool by volume and method

Smaller samples: S 25 N - 8 G

Catalog 0001024200, published for 1–50 mL H₂O with an 8 mm stator. Consider it when your small sample and vessel cannot support the depth or circulation required by an 18 mm tool. Sold separately.

This listing: S 25 N - 18 G

Catalog 0000593400, 10–1,500 mL H₂O, 18 mm stator. A middle-range tool for a suitable liquid batch. Check the sample chemistry, vessel opening, depth and circulation, not just nominal vessel capacity.

Larger batches: S 25 N - 25 G

Catalog 0001713300, published for 50–2,000 mL H₂O with a 25 mm stator. A separate larger-head option; do not assume it produces the same result as the 18 G at an overlapping volume.

Water-based working ranges are manufacturer reference values, not a guarantee for every viscosity, solid content or vessel. This tool is for batch operation under ambient-pressure conditions; the N construction is not a vacuum-rated sealed shaft.

Confirm immersion and bottom clearance together

Conceptual vessel diagram showing the required minimum 10 mm gap beneath the tool head
Original setup concept based on the drive manual. Not a scale drawing, supplied vessel or universal vessel-fit guarantee.

The S 25 N - 18 G tool data lists an immersion range of 40–165 mm. Its 194 mm shaft length is a different dimension; do not treat the entire shaft as the usable immersion range.

The classic T 25 drive manual adds a 45 mm minimum shaft immersion and requires at least 10 mm clearance from the vessel bottom. Follow the tool and drive instructions together. If you intend to operate near the tool’s lower published limit, have IKA confirm the vessel and fill geometry before use.

IKA does not provide one universal minimum vessel internal diameter for this tool in the sources reviewed. An 18 mm stator diameter does not mean an 18 mm vessel is suitable. Allow the required clearance and circulation, secure glass vessels and never let the head contact the wall or bottom.

How rotor-stator processing differs from ordinary stirring

The rotating rotor draws sample axially into the head, then forces it radially through the stator arrangement. Local shear acts on the preparation while liquid circulates through the vessel.

Use it when your research method calls for dispersion, emulsification or wet crushing in a liquid batch. A magnetic stirrer’s bulk mixing action is different, and the two tools should not be treated as interchangeable just because both rotate.

IKA lists ultimate-fineness reference ranges of 10–50 µm for suspensions and 1–10 µm for emulsions. They are not guaranteed final particle or droplet sizes for every formulation. Starting material, concentration, vessel, speed and duration affect the result.

Use short runs, then inspect the result

Prepare with power isolated

Use only an approved compatible drive and fit the tool according to both manuals. Inspect for damage, confirm secure mounting and vessel restraint, and position the head correctly in liquid before starting.

Start at the lowest speed

Increase gradually as the method requires. Never exceed 25,000 rpm. Stop if the setup splashes, vibrates, makes unusual noise or releases increasing liquid from the upper side rinsing opening.

One minute is the limit

The tool manual specifies non-continuous operation and a maximum one-minute run; often a few seconds suffice. The T 25 motor’s 100% ON-time rating does not override this tool limit.

Monitor sample temperature

Shear adds heat. Longer processing is not automatically better and can raise sample temperature substantially. Develop speed and duration for the sample, rather than running until an assumed fineness is reached.

Reusable does not mean maintenance-free

Rinsing is not a substitute for disassembly. IKA’s manual calls for prompt separation and cleaning of the tool after working. Running it in a suitable cleaning solvent can remove much of the residue, but does not replace the documented cleaning procedure.

  • Switch off the drive, disconnect mains power and let a hot tool cool before removal.
  • Use the supplied service keys and follow the manual. The stator has a left-hand thread; do not apply a generic tightening direction or force every joint the same way.
  • Inspect the slotted PTFE bearing and working edges. Abrasive media can round the edges more quickly, reduce dispersing effectiveness and introduce wear debris into the sample.
  • Reassemble in the documented order. Do not overtighten the rotor, which can damage the thread or teeth.

The wetted materials are AISI 316L and PTFE. IKA lists pH 2–13, solvent suitability and a maximum medium working temperature of 180 °C. Confirm the actual sample chemistry and process conditions; none of these individual limits is a blanket validation for every chemical mixture.

Cleaning and sterilization: tool, not drive

The manual permits sterilization of the complete S 25 N tool and describes damp heat at 121 °C and 2 bar positive pressure, suitable chemical procedures, and hot air at 160–190 °C for approximately 30 minutes. Select and validate the method for your laboratory process, remove disinfectant residues as instructed, and follow the full manual.

These procedures apply to the S 25 N dispersing tool, not to the T 25 motor housing. The tool is reusable equipment, not a presterile disposable. Wearing parts and damage from improper use or insufficient care are excluded by the tool manual’s warranty terms; IKA assesses manufacturer warranty claims.

Pair it with the correct drive

Compatible parent equipment shown for context only. The T 25 drive, stand and vessel are not included in this tool order.

Manufacturer-confirmed: classic T 25 digital

IKA’s exact S 25 N - 18 G product description and compatibility list identify the classic T 25 digital ULTRA-TURRAX, US catalog 0003725001. This tool is an accessory, not a replacement motor.

Related workflow: Shop the compatible IKA T 25 digital drive. Its page explains the separately selected support hardware and broader tool choices.

IKA also lists additional compatible T 25 variants. Match the exact drive and tool instructions before ordering; this S 25 N tool does not acquire EASY CLEAN or temperature-sensing features merely because a compatible drive offers them.

Review the vessel before you run

Related workflow: Heathrow borosilicate glass beakers offer vessel options to assess. Check the selected beaker’s internal dimensions, usable fill depth and method suitability, and provide the glass-vessel restraint required by the drive manual. This is not a blanket compatibility claim for every beaker size.

For trained research laboratory use only. Not for clinical or diagnostic use. Do not use a damaged tool, run it dry, touch rotating parts or use the drive in an explosive atmosphere.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will 0000593400 fit the classic IKA T 25 digital?

Yes. IKA names T 25 digital as suitable in the exact S 25 N - 18 G product description, and lists US drive 0003725001 in its compatibility section. The tool is sold separately from the motor drive, stand and vessel.

What sample volume is the S 25 N - 18 G designed for?

IKA specifies 10–1500 mL H₂O for catalog 0000593400. This is a water-based working range, not a guarantee for every viscous or solid-containing preparation. Vessel opening, depth, circulation and sample properties also matter.

Is an 18 mm stator the same as a minimum 18 mm vessel diameter?

No. The 18 mm value is the stator’s outside diameter, not a manufacturer-approved minimum vessel ID. Provide the opening, circulation and wall/bottom clearance required by both manuals, and restrain the vessel appropriately.

Why does the tool list 40 mm immersion while the drive manual says 45 mm?

These are different published instructions that must be considered together. The tool data states 40–165 mm immersion, while the classic T 25 drive manual specifies at least 45 mm shaft immersion and a 10 mm bottom gap. Have IKA confirm geometry when planning use near the lower limits; do not use the tool table alone as a startup instruction.

Can I run this tool continuously on a T 25 motor?

No. The tool manual specifies non-continuous use, normally seconds, with a maximum one-minute run. A drive rated for 100% ON time does not remove the tool’s limit. Processing also heats the sample.

Does the 180 °C rating apply to the motor or all chemicals?

No. It is the published maximum working-medium temperature for this tool. The classic T 25 drive has a separate 5–40 °C ambient rating. Check the wetted PTFE/AISI316L, pH range and actual chemical compatibility before using a method.

Can this S 25 N tool work under vacuum?

The standard N tools shown in IKA’s selection literature are for open-batch, ambient-pressure use, not vacuum operation. Choose a specifically suitable sealed tool and complete setup for a vacuum or pressure method; do not infer a system rating from the drive alone.

Can I just rinse it between samples or put the entire drive in an autoclave?

No. IKA calls for prompt tool disassembly and cleaning; a solvent rinse does not replace that procedure. The manual’s sterilization methods concern the S 25 N tool, not the T 25 motor housing. Use a validated cleaning method suitable for your samples and laboratory procedure.
