Overview: The Hanna Instruments HI83308 Water Conditioning Photometer is a robust benchtop instrument engineered for comprehensive water quality analysis. It precisely measures 15 critical water parameters utilizing 23 distinct methods. Equipped with an advanced optical system, including high-efficiency LEDs, narrow band interference filters, and a precision focusing lens, alongside a silicon photodetector and a reference detector, this photometer guarantees consistently accurate and highly repeatable photometric results.

This versatile photometer is specifically designed to address common challenges in water conditioning and environmental monitoring. Accurate iron testing is crucial as high levels can impact water clarity, odor, and lead to issues in appliances and piping. Similarly, precise ammonia detection is vital for aquatic environments, from aquariums to fish farms, due to its toxicity to aquatic life. Furthermore, monitoring fluoride levels is essential, balancing its benefits for dental health with the risks of excessive concentration.

Beyond its powerful photometric capabilities, the HI83308 incorporates a digital pH electrode input, enabling it to function as a professional pH meter. The innovative digital pH probe stores its own calibration data, allowing for effortless "hot-swapping" without the need for frequent recalibration. All pH measurements benefit from automatic temperature compensation, ensuring superior accuracy.

The HI83308 also features an integrated absorbance measuring mode, supporting CAL Check™ standards for system validation. This mode allows users to select from four distinct wavelengths (420 nm, 525 nm, 575 nm, and 610 nm) to develop custom concentration curves based on the Beer-Lambert Law. This makes it an ideal tool for specialized chemical methods or for educational applications.

Dual USB ports facilitate convenient data transfer, allowing readings to be easily exported as .CSV files to flash drives or computers. For enhanced portability and field use, the meter is also powered by an internal 3.7 VDC rechargeable Lithium-polymer battery, ensuring reliable performance whether in the lab or on-site.

Note: Reagents are not included with the meter and are sold separately.

IDEAL APPLICATIONS: Water Treatment Facilities, Industrial Water Management, Boiler & Cooling Tower Maintenance, Aquarium & Aquaculture Monitoring, Environmental Testing, Educational Research.

Advanced Optical System

Innovative Design

The HI83308 features an innovative optical system incorporating a beam splitter. This design allows light to be simultaneously used for absorbance readings and by a reference detector, which actively monitors and compensates for any light intensity drift caused by power fluctuations or heating of optical components, ensuring unparalleled photometric performance.

High-Efficiency LED Light Source

Utilizing an LED light source provides superior performance compared to traditional tungsten lamps. LEDs offer significantly higher luminous efficiency, producing more light with less power, and generate minimal heat, which prevents adverse effects on optical components and electronic stability. Their wide range of available wavelengths ensures optimal light output for diverse measurements.

Precision Narrow Band Interference Filters

These high-quality filters guarantee exceptional wavelength accuracy of +/- 1 nm and are remarkably efficient, transmitting up to 95% of the LED light. This superior efficiency results in a brighter, stronger light source, leading to enhanced measurement stability and significantly reduced wavelength errors, crucial for reliable analytical results.

Reference Detector for Stable Light Source

A key component of the HI83308's internal reference system is a beam splitter paired with a reference detector. This system actively compensates for any light source drift due to power fluctuations or ambient temperature changes, ensuring a consistently stable light source between your blank (zero) measurement and subsequent sample measurements, providing ultimate reliability.

Optimized Large Cuvette Size

The HI83308's sample cell accommodates a round glass cuvette with a 25 mm path length. This larger size, combined with advanced optical components, significantly minimizes rotation errors from cuvette indexing marks. The extended path length allows light to pass through more of the sample, ensuring accurate measurements even for low absorbance samples.

Focusing Lens for Enhanced Light Yield

The inclusion of a focusing lens in the optical path is a novel approach that collects all light exiting the cuvette and directs it precisely onto the silicon photodetector. This design effectively cancels errors arising from imperfections or scratches on the glass cuvette, eliminating the need for cuvette indexing and ensuring highly accurate results.
