Engineered for precise water analysis, the HI93703 Portable Turbidity Meter delivers dependable and accurate turbidity readings, particularly in low-range applications. This instrument utilizes an advanced optical system to ensure consistent accuracy, long-term stability, and minimal interference from stray light and color. Regular calibration using the included standards compensates for any fluctuations in the LED light source intensity. The 25 mm round cuvettes, crafted from specialized optical glass, guarantee repeatable and reliable turbidity measurements.

Key Features at a Glance

Single Detector System (90° Light Scatter): The HI93703 employs a 90° light detector to measure turbidity based on scattered light principles. It provides a broad measurement range from 0.00 to 1000 FTU, making it suitable for various water quality testing needs.

ISO 7027 Compliant Turbidity Measurement: This portable turbidity meter adheres to and surpasses the ISO 7027 standard for turbidity determination, utilizing an infrared LED as its light source. Designed to follow this globally recognized ISO method, the meter displays results in Formazine Turbidity Units (FTU), which are equivalent to Nephelometric Turbidity Units (NTU).

User-Friendly Calibration: The HI93703 features a robust calibration function that effectively compensates for variations in light intensity. Calibration can be performed using the supplied certified standards or user-prepared solutions. Achieve high accuracy with a two or three-point calibration using the included 0 FTU, 10 FTU, and 500 FTU standards.

High-Quality AMCO AEPA-1 Primary Standards: Benefit from the included AMCO AEPA-1 standards, recognized by the USEPA as primary standards. These non-toxic standards, composed of uniform styrene divinylbenzene polymer spheres, offer excellent stability, a long shelf life, and are reusable, ensuring reliable calibration over time.

Calibration Date Tracking: Stay informed about your instrument's calibration status. The HI93703 allows users to conveniently store and recall the date of the last calibration with a simple press of the "DATE" button, promoting good laboratory practices.

Intelligent Low Battery Indication: The meter features a clear "LO BAT" indicator on the display's lower right corner when battery replacement is needed. Even with a low battery, approximately 50 measurements can still be performed. To ensure reliable readings, the instrument will display a warning message and automatically power off when the battery level is critically low.

Understanding Turbidity Measurement with the HI93703

The HI93703 portable turbidity meter operates by analyzing how a light beam interacts with a water sample. As light passes through, suspended particles cause it to scatter in multiple directions. The degree and pattern of this light scattering are influenced by factors such as the wavelength of the incident light, the physical characteristics of the particles (size and shape), their refractive index, and the sample's inherent color. The turbidity analyzer's optical system strategically employs an infrared LED as a stable light source and a dedicated scattered light detector positioned at a 90° angle to precisely measure the intensity of the scattered light.

A critical factor in achieving accurate low-range turbidity measurements is minimizing stray light – light detected by the sensor that isn't a result of particle scattering. The advanced optical architecture of the HI93703 is engineered for exceptionally low stray light, ensuring highly reliable and precise results, especially for water samples with minimal turbidity levels.
