The Hanna Instruments HI8734 is a robust, portable TDS meter specifically engineered for a wide array of environmental and industrial water quality applications. It's an ideal choice for professionals involved in water conditioning, softening, demineralization, reverse osmosis (RO) systems, and ensuring drinking water quality. This meter provides highly accurate Total Dissolved Solids readings across three distinct ranges, spanning from 0.0 mg/L (ppm) up to 19.99 g/L (ppt), all with an impressive ±1% Full Scale (FS) accuracy. The included HI76301D four-ring conductivity probe is a key feature, allowing for versatile and reliable measurements with a single, durable sensor.
The HI8734 is designed to offer both precision and practical usability in the field.
The four-ring probe supplied with the HI8734 is a versatile and accurate solution for TDS readings. Unlike traditional two-electrode probes that have limited measurement capabilities, this advanced four-ring technology enables a significantly wider range of measurements with a single sensor, making it highly adaptable for various applications. Additionally, the probe is equipped with a durable PVC protective sleeve, ensuring ruggedness and longevity when taking measurements in demanding outdoor environments.
The HI8734 simplifies complex TDS measurements by offering three distinct measurement ranges. Each range is assigned a dedicated, clearly labeled button on the meter's face, allowing users to effortlessly switch between ranges as needed. The meter intelligently guides the user by indicating when the current reading is outside the active range, prompting a quick and easy selection of a more appropriate range for optimal accuracy.
The Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) value in aqueous solutions is directly related to their electrical conductivity. The precise relationship between these two parameters can vary depending on the specific composition of the solution being analyzed. The HI8734 is pre-set with a common TDS factor of 0.5, which is widely applicable to many common water solutions. This means that for every 1 µS/cm of conductivity, the meter calculates 0.5 mg/L (ppm) of TDS, providing a standardized and reliable conversion for typical applications.
Experience consistent and precise results with user-friendly features.
Given the significant impact temperature can have on conductivity and TDS readings, a meter that provides temperature-compensated results is crucial for accuracy. With the HI8734, once the sample's temperature is accurately determined using an external thermometer, it can be easily input into the meter via a dedicated temperature knob. The meter then automatically adjusts the TDS reading to account for temperature variations within the range of 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F). The fixed temperature compensation coefficient (β) of 2%/°C ensures that the reading is precisely corrected by 2% for every degree Celsius change in the sample's temperature.
The HI8734 is designed for straightforward and efficient calibration. It can be easily calibrated at a single point using a standard TDS calibration solution. The dedicated calibration knob conveniently located on the face of the meter allows users to quickly and precisely adjust the meter to match the value of the calibration standard, ensuring optimal accuracy for your measurements.
