APERA INSTRUMENTS / PH400S / AI421
PH400S adds timestamped recording and USB connectivity to a portable pH workflow. Use the separate 201T-S pH/temperature electrode, automatic calibration and backlit display for routine aqueous measurements, then manage results with its memory and PC-Link options.
Choose AI421 when a recorded result matters as much as the reading. Its standard probe is for general aqueous work; the broader electronic pH range does not make that probe universal.

The AI421 standard kit brings together the meter, its specified electrode and the matching calibration supplies. It is not a meter-only order.
PH400S meter, 201T-S pH/temperature electrode, pH 4.00, 7.00 and 10.01 buffers, USB cable, carrying case and instructions.
201T-S pH/temperature electrode
pH 4.00, 7.00 and 10.01 buffers; 50 mL per listed bottle
USB cable, carrying case and instructions
START WITH THE SAMPLE AND THE WORKFLOW
Save numbered measurements with date, time, unit and temperature instead of relying only on a handwritten value. GLP-style data features are not a certification or regulated audit trail.
Use the supplied 201T-S pH/temperature electrode for suitable aqueous samples. Select another compatible probe when sample chemistry calls for it.
Use USB and Apera’s PC-Link workflow to retrieve or observe results. Distinguish saved meter records from live measurements sent to software.
PH400S documents 500 groups of stored data, manual saving and timed recording. The meter records selected measurement details with timestamps. The USB cable is part of the standard kit; live PC-Link readings are sent to software rather than retained in meter memory.
For pH calibration, the S-series manual offers the default 1-3 point mode and an optional 1-5 point mode. The three supplied buffers do not form a complete five-point set.
Choose the data workflow and parameter set, not the suffix alone. S does not mean a different standard probe or automatically better sample compatibility.
A measurement-focused pH kit. 1-3 point pH calibration. No supported measurement logger or USB function is documented for this standard model.
Timestamped memory, manual/timed recording and USB/PC-Link. 500 groups per US manual. Up to five pH calibration points. The standard supplied electrode model remains the same.
Offline field records stay in the meter’s documented memory. In a connected PC-Link session, live measurements are sent to software rather than saved in meter memory. Decide which workflow you need before starting a timed run.
Apera now links a browser-based PC-Link option alongside legacy Windows instructions. The current app uses Web Serial and names Chrome, Edge and Opera. USB drivers, browser permissions and local IT requirements can still affect setup.
Use the date, time, parameter, temperature and calibration information to support your records. These GLP-style functions do not by themselves establish an immutable audit trail, electronic signatures or regulated-software compliance.
For USA buffers, start at pH 7.00 and add pH 4.00 and/or 10.01 as appropriate. Use clean buffers, wait for stability and keep pH calibration separate from conductivity standards. Optional five-point work needs additional buffers beyond the three supplied.
Rinse before and after samples, avoid bubbles at the sensor and wait for stability. Keep connectors dry. The meter’s electronic range and compensation interval do not override the supplied electrode’s sample limits.
Keep pH glass in its KCl-based storage system, never pure water. For 2301T-S, follow its dedicated instructions for distilled/DI water in the cap. Do not rub sensing surfaces or improvise aggressive cleaning treatments.
For a dedicated pH routine with a separate 201T-S electrode. ORP needs a separately sold compatible electrode.
For conductivity and calculated TDS. S adds salinity/resistivity readouts and data functions.
For both pH and EC-derived workflows with two supplied probes, used in their appropriate modes.
A pocket tester can suit a different handling preference. Compare the measurement requirements, sensor and recording needs before switching formats; these are alternative instruments, not compatible plug-in accessories.
Alternative format: Apera EC60 pocket conductivity/TDS/salinity tester
Related workflow: Apera PC60 multi-parameter pocket tester
The kit includes PH400S, 201T-S pH/temperature electrode, pH 4.00, 7.00 and 10.01 buffers, USB cable, carrying case and instructions. The meter requires four AA batteries.
The US S-series manual specifies 500 groups for PH400S, with numbered, dated and timed measurement records. Manual saving and timed recording are documented.
PH400S adds documented memory, timed saving and USB/PC-Link functions. It also provides S-series pH range and calibration options. The standard supplied 201T-S probe is the same model, so S does not mean a different included electrode.
The US manual specifies meter range -2.00 to 19.99 pH, selectable 0.1/0.01 pH resolution and ±0.01 pH ±1 digit accuracy. Treat this as an electronic range, not an unrestricted operating range for the supplied electrode.
The meter supports a 1-5 point mode, but the standard kit supplies pH 4.00, 7.00 and 10.01 buffers only. Additional appropriate buffers are needed to use all five points. Slope display differs between calibration modes.
Apera now links a browser-based PC-Link option in addition to legacy Windows instructions. The linked app requires Web Serial and names Chrome, Edge and Opera. USB drivers, browser permissions and local IT rules can still matter; do not assume Firefox or Safari support.
The manual and current web app distinguish the two destinations. Live PC-Link measurements are sent to software rather than saved into meter memory. Plan offline field saving and connected logging as different workflows.
Do not assume universal suitability from the meter’s compensation functions. The standard 201T-S is for general aqueous work; low-ionic-strength water, prolonged heat, strong chemicals and extreme pH can need a different compatible electrode.
Review the PH400S specifications and supplied parts, then return to the price and ordering controls. Blue Tiger Scientific can help you compare the meter, probe and recording requirements for your application.
Meter ranges and compensation intervals describe the electronics, not an unrestricted operating range for the supplied electrode. Match the exact probe and sample conditions to the method.
